Integrating Native Plants into the Home Landscape

Native plant communities provide nectar, food, and shelter for wildlife as well as a host of environmental services that make life better for all of us!  Native plants provide green infrastructure which can reduce flooding, and improve both soil health and water quality. With a little planning and a little planting each of us can have a positive impact in our communities while also  adding year-round beauty to the landscape.

Portage SWCD received grant funding through Western Reserve Land Conservancy and Dominion Energy’s Mini-Watershed Grants to offer a series of four educational workshops designed to help homeowners improve the environmental function of their yards.  Judy Semroc, naturalist and conservation specialist with Nature Spark is the keynote speaker for each of the four workshops. Additional presentations & assistance will be provided by ODNR staff,  SWCD staff,  and the Portage County Master Gardeners. Along with tremendous information and resources, program attendees will also receive native plants or native seed packets.
