Bur Oak - Quercus macrocarpa -     The Bur Oak is one of the most picturesque of the oaks of the Midwest. It has fiddle-shaped leathery leaves, huge fringed acorns, thick and sometimes corky twigs and deeply ridged bark. This oak can tolerate continuously moist, well drained sites and very dry sites. This tree has a slow growth rate and can reach heights of 75 feet. This tree is a great food source for wildlife, due to its production of large sized acorns.
